When we talk @ New Hope about becoming followers of Jesus unfortunately a few people still see it as following a particular political party and all that it stands for. Also, how we worship, who reads scripture, leads music etc. etc., still is an issue for a few as well. Those are stupid, energy wasting battles that we fight continually. However,things are far better now than they were when we came to New Hope. Tradition was the driving force for worship from Sunday to Sunday rather than the Christ that died for us!!! Now,through prayer and Bob's stubborn commitment to the Gospel, our core leadership is being transformed and because of our Friday Nite Live feeding program, God is dramatically transforming us to be what I believe the church should be...Matthew 25:40, "In as much as you have done it unto one of the least of these, you have done it unto me." I'm not sure I completely understand all that you were saying but God is working and changing His church! We are seeing people through the eyes of Jesus. Praise him! Wood, in which he describes what happens when faith communities are driven by an exclusive claim to truth. Although sub-titled "Christianity and Race in America from the Colonial Era to the Twentieth Century," it applies internationally timelessly. Unfortunately, as you have studied and observed, the essence of the Gospel is often buried beneath competing and confusing claims of infallibility and inerrancy.
